I love sweets!

I love things that are sweet to the taste buds. So a good tasting cake was important to me, more so than the design of the cake. I hate cakes that are too dry or frosting that are too sweet, ugh, nothing is worse than a unappetizing cake. Luckily I was able to find a baker that not only made delicious cakes but also very pretty cakes. Despi Delite Bakery on Beacon hill in Seattle made our wedding cake a hit! I met with the baker Christian a few months prior to the wedding date. I showed him the design I wanted. http://www.weddingbee.com/2007/07/10/butterscotch-my-cake-version-10
Funny thing actually happened when I went in. As we were talking he asked what middle school I went to, turns out we went to school together same class and everything (small world). Anyways, Christian assured me he could come up with the cake of my dreams, he gave us some great suggestions. We had a layers of white and chocolate. Here is what our cake looked like. I wish you could have tasted it!

If I may toot my own horn for a moment, check out my DIY cake topper. I had a lot of love for that damn thing, and it turned out exactly how I wanted it.

These pictures are so funny, I didn't see the kids doing this until I got my proofs back...

Bad kids! :)

My cake final draft

I dropped off my final design for my baker last week. My original cake version 1.0 design was a little too light for my taste. My BM Kori was able to tweak the colors and here is the final pattern.
*the colors appear darker than they are
The color is actual a really jewel toned blue. This is just the bottom and middle layer.

I also mentioned before that I got the idea from the knot magazine. Well I was able to get the original picture back and the cake I saw was by JollyBe bakery located in NY. Her cakes are so pretty. They are hand painted and the designs she has on her website are amazing! Here is the original cake from the magazine.

I think my friend did a great job replicating the pattern! I can't wait to see it next month.

My cake version 1.0

I finally found a cake that I love! It was in the knot magazine. The only thing between me and my cake was a few thousand miles :). But never fear the bakeries in Seattle are superb! I had my good friend and Bridesmaid Kori make a mock up of the design that I wanted and from there we are tweaking the colors and the any aspects of the design. Here is what we have so far. The color will defiantly be the signature sapphire blue. But I really like how this looks so far. What are your thoughts?

Soon to be Mrs blah blah

So as I have said before I am not planning on embroidering anything to say Bride or Mrs. blah blah. Not that I don't like the idea or think its cute. I actually think its so cute and I would so it in a heart beat. But I cannot understand the point of having a shirt I could only wear once or twice. I love clothes and I will happily spend a good amount of cash on them if I can justify the purchase. So when I saw this shirt I felt like I could actually justify the purchase. It says "wifey" and I will be a wifey for a long time so it can be worn more than once. And I think I can even make it myself with the left over crystals from my cake topper!

How Steel Magnolias Inspired Me

One of my favorite movies is Steel Magnolias. If you haven’t seen it, then I will not ruin the ending. But in it there is a wedding being planned Julia Roberts character Shelby has a divine southern wedding planned with her colors of blush and bashful. Which in reality are two shades of pink. One scene has the characters discussing the groom’s cake. Shelby aunt has offered to make a devils food cake in the shape of an armadillo! A lot of southern traditions don’t get used here in Seattle but I just casually mentioned to the groom what he would think about a groom’s cake. He thought it would be OK only when I said we could do something fun with it. Like something with our college Alma mater. But then I saw this online and he loved the idea.

We haven’t really officially decided if this will even be done, basically we still need to see if it would be a pointless waist of money. But his enthusiasm over it was so funny to me.

To top it off

I see cakes everywhere!!! Ok not everywhere but they have been one of the last nagging things hanging over my head. Then it dawned on me I hadnt shared my cake topper with you. I am not a DIY (do it yourself) kinda girl but I loved these toppers. I looked up the prices online and I figured out I would save around $75-$125 just by using a little elbow grease. So drum roll please......I give you my cake topper.

And not to be bias since I did make, but it is so pretty! Really the picture is good but it's so much prettier in person.
