To top it off

I see cakes everywhere!!! Ok not everywhere but they have been one of the last nagging things hanging over my head. Then it dawned on me I hadnt shared my cake topper with you. I am not a DIY (do it yourself) kinda girl but I loved these toppers. I looked up the prices online and I figured out I would save around $75-$125 just by using a little elbow grease. So drum roll please......I give you my cake topper.

And not to be bias since I did make, but it is so pretty! Really the picture is good but it's so much prettier in person.

Pretty Cakes

Now that I have vented about the cost of cakes it's time for the fun part. Looking at them. OK I know the fun part is eating the cakes but this is the next best thing right? I want a simple looking cake. Not a lot of fru fru. These cake below may see glitzy but within my circle of friends I think they are very understated.

Or should I throw all caution to the wind and have a colored cake...

I can't say I love this one below but it was so unique it made me give it a double take.

Shake, shake, shake your money maker

Some follow Oprah, Dr. Phil or Martha. I know I have said it once and I will say it again... I am trying to live it up the last few single months I have. So I recently have taken Ludacris’ advice to “shake your money maker”. I have already made plans to take a Miami vacation with my favorite girl and bridesmaid Trishhhaaaaa! I want to wear a few things that I normally wouldn’t wear around here. One thing included is a sparkly dress. This one is by BCBG and I love it!

Flour, sugar and eggs cost how much???

Weddings can be memorable to some people in many different ways. Most brides want their guests to leave with a lasting image of the wedding. It can be the flowers, food or even the cake. And when you think about it the cake has a lot of "show" time. It's normally out at the reception for everyone to look at. Even though it will eventually be cut up and devoured I still want it to be pretty. But how much will pretty cost is the question. When my friend Sarah got married about a year and half ago she was nice enough to bring her sample cakes into work so we could try each one out. She was also the first person to let me in on the harsh world of wedding planning. Wedding cakes carry a hefty price tag. How much is too much to spend on a cake? Personally $5.00(and more) a slice is too much but $3.25 is a start price here in Seattle. Any tips on getting the best price for the cake?

For the Groom

I get a new dress for the big day. After the wedding I can take the dress out and look at it forever. The groom gets to rent a tux and return it within 48 hours. My dress was ordered exactly to my size and I can have alterations done for any tweaking that needs to be done to make it perfect. And he gets to rent a tux and return it within 48 hours. I could have him wear a suit that he owns but since I only get to see him dressed up once every 4 years I decided he was going to be in a tux no complaining allowed. But then the nice Leah came out again and I decided that I at least wanted him to have something that he could wear and keep after the wedding. Something practical besides a watch or cuff links. Then I remembered this great shirt shop we saw when we went to San Francisco a few years back. Thomas Pink has been around in London for a long time and has a great reputation! They have a lot of wonderful shirts and ties galore! A bonus is that I can give him a new shirt to wear as a pre-wedding gift and he will have to wear it for the rehearsal dinner too! The nice thing about their shirts are, the variety they give. Everything from style, collar, pattern and cuff. And the colors are vibrant. They also have women’s shirts and if I remember correctly Oprah once called the best button up shirts a few years ago.

Warning: Do not look if you a bridesmaid!

If I put a warning to my bridesmaids not to read this I know for a fact 3 out of the 5 would look and the other 2 would be tempted. So for that reason I cannot say what I will give them as a gift. Which is fine for now since I am not sure what I want to give them. I have been in a good handful of weddings and have gotten everything from the dress, flip flops, books as gifts and sometimes nothing at all. Does anyone have any suggestions of what I can give my girls? *They are already paying for their own dresses. And now that I am thinking about it how about the groomsmen?

Is that the sun in my eyes?

No its not the sun it's just my engagement ring! I was completely surprised by the proposal and only a few times in passing mentioned what styles I liked in rings. Lena had even offered to call him if I ever thought a proposal was going to happen. But it turns out he had it planned all along. Now the fun task of finding a wedding band. I think I want a band that has both diamonds and sapphires. My birthstone is a diamond and his is a sapphire so I think that would be a lovely gesture. But when I recently visited my jewelry I also really liked the all diamond bands. What do you guys think? My engagement ring is at the top.
Here are the diamond and sapphire combos, I think I want to keep my ring but I do love this one set I found.

These are the two all diamond bands that are also in the running.

Lil John and my wedding plans? Whhhhhaaaaattttttt?

Yeeeeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaayyyyyyuuuuuuuhhhh! I am lucky #2 out of my bridesmaids to be getting married. When Kori got married last August we started a tradition of the Crunk cup. What is a crunk cup you ask. Well according to the urban dictionary it is : A goblet or chalice that "pimps" carry around with them at social gatherings. Usually ridiculously decorated in a "sparkly" fashion. In fact, it looks like someone gave a kid with ADD infinite access to a "Bedazzler" and a china cabinet. Usually carries around "Cristal" (krih-stahl) imitations and such. Lil' Jon is one of the people that can be thanked for bringing this bedazzled cup to the masses.

Well not to be out done my wonderful best friend Lena and I decided Kori needed her own Crunk cup. Since I was Kori maid of honor I already had my plate full with other last minute bacholorette party duties. Lena was way more crafty than I was so she offered to make the cup.

Now that I am ready to enjoy the few months of my single life and get my hot little hands on the Crunk cup. However Kori still has it. Lena, Kori and I had long ago decided that the cup would be passed down to the next bride to be. However we have now also decided we need to have some rules for the cup. Kori made the first rule as follows: You must not reach for the Crunk cup. The Crunk cup must come to you.
What are some other rules that we should add to crunk cup?
I will keep you posted on when I do get the cup!Okkkkaaaaaaaayyyyyyy!

Speaking of flowers...

We are not allowed to throw real petals at the church. I never dreamed about walking down an aisle covered in roses but it would have been nice to have the option. And then I remembered Kori used fake roses to trot down the aisle. I was really impressed with the quality of petals as well. Growing up with my grandma I know how silk flowers can look dull or too shiny. But the Petal garden flowers really looked good. So I have ordered sample petals from www.petalgarden.com. They will be in any day now. What do you think of these choices? Do you think I should do color or all white?
